Maths Skills for Primary/Intermediate Teachers

The Wellington Mathematics Association is continuing the work of Jake Willis on the Kāpiti Coast, providing PLD to primary and intermediate teachers on the new mathematics curriculum.

Jake Wills designed a course for primary teachers who felt anxious about teaching Level 3 and Level 4 mathematical concepts in the new curriculum (now end of year 6 and end of year 8). The course is focused on upskilling the teachers’ knowledge of maths and not on how to teach or structure a lesson. You can see Jake's resources here.

The WMA is working to modify these resources for the new curriculum (Jake was using a draft) and will be proving them in Porirua, Wellington and the Hutt Valley.

The Porirua sessions will be starting in term 4, 2024, while everywhere else will be starting in 2025.

The PLD sessions are free to attend, and from what we understand are different from the PLD that the MoE is offering schools.
